またまた病気というか、わが身の健康上のテーマである。
何を隠そう、私の歯は歯並びが悪く虫歯だらけで、小学生高学年ころから医者通いで悩み続けてきた（あの歯を削る音と、八丁堀の番屋で拷問にあっているかのようなつらい痛みと）。
60も半ばを過ぎれば、歯も少なくなってきてはいるのだが、左奥の親知らずがまだ残っている。
これは十数年前から生える方向が悪いといわれ医者から抜いた方が良いといわれている。
その一つ手前の歯は虫歯で、今は金属でかぶせてある状態だ。
この二つが今回の問題歯だ。
発端は、数日前の歯の疼きと、沁みる（漢字は間違っているかも）感じがしてきて、夜の眠りに影響が出始めてきたからだ。
嫌々歯医者に出向くと、先生曰く、手前の歯はグラグラで抜歯、奥の親知らずは虫歯があり、かみ合わせもよくないので、出来れば抜歯が望ましい。ついては口腔外科を紹介するので、そちらで抜歯してください、との通達に近い物言い。
ここで覚悟を決めた。いっそ2本とも抜いてしまえと。
でも小心者の私にとっては、歯医者は医者の中でも一番嫌いな部類なので、ものすごくプレッシャーがかかっている。奥歯を抜くというのは、ものすごく力がいるし、患者の身にとっても力が入る状態なのだ。
そんなこと耐えられるのか？ いや、きっと気絶してしまうだろう。それも自分が緊張して、体が硬直して、汗びっしょりかいて、疲れ果てて気絶をするのではないか、と恐れ始めたのだ。
あーあ、どうしよう。このまま放置しておこうか。
そうするとまた痛み出して、歯医者へ行かねばならなくなる。するとまた拷問が待っている。
あーあ、TO BE OR NOT TO BE、 THAT IS A QUESTION。
の心境だ。
暫く悩みが続く。
